In years gone by, families didn’t go far on high days and holidays.  Merrydale was close to the working textile mills of Colne Valley, within walking distance of many folk.  “It was just like Blackpool, packed, hardly room to sit down” this is just one of the many comments we have collected. We have tagged the following clips according to the things discussed.

Peter Fulcher

Many folk have happy memories of Merrydale, picnicking, swimming in the dam, playing and courting. But sadly on 7th June 1963 Peter Fulcher drowned in Merrydale dam aged 16 years.  The dam is longer there.
